New T.I. 3D DLP Chipset

Texas Instruments (USA) unveiled last month a new family of image processing chips designed for front projectors, which enable broader standardization of 3D and interactive technologies. Projectors with the new chipset design, which will be incorporated in shipping units starting late summer 2012, will seamlessly display content from common 3D-formats supported by HDMI 1.4, from virtually any mobile device including tablets, smart phones, laptops and Blu-ray players.

Panasonic offers the first product with this new chip.

IC3D Call For Papers

One of the main pillars of 3D Stereo MEDIA is the Scientific Conference, where the science and engineering of the technological and artistic marvels of the future are discussed in depth. This conference is called the “International Conference on 3D Imaging”, abbreviated IC3D, and to be pronounced “I see 3D”, of course...

We are delighted to announce that the IEEE Signal Processing Society (www.signalprocessingsociety.org) has renewed its technical co-sponsorship of IC3D. With over 400,000 members, the IEEE (www.ieee.org) is the largest professional organization in the World for the advancement of science and technology.

We count on the scientists, engineers, etc. among you to submit their papers by the deadline of 3 September 2012. You'll find all the necessary information at www.3dstereomedia.eu/scientific-conference, including the Call for Papers.

Dracula 3D by Dario Argento

The 47th Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) International Film Festival hosted Italian director DARIO ARGENTO, who introduced thestereoscopic 3D film Dario Argento’s Dracula included at the midnight Ssreening on June 30, 2012.

 The film

The Italian director decided the story needed to get back to its Gothic origins, and in his surreal imagination the count gains an added dimension – as did the picture itself with stereoscopic 3D. “The new 3D is different, the old 3D was not perfect, it was a pain on the eyes. Now it’s good. Then I wanted to see Dracula with a distance, with a depth,” explained the screenwriter and director. A substantial dose of horrors, just as the Italian master has been serving up for years to his appreciative fans, are there in spades in this film.

Argento’s 3D take on the Bram Stoker classic and features Thomas Kretschmann, Asia Argento and Rutger Hauer in the leading roles. The film has received mixed reviews from critics though his efforts were pretty much respected in traditional bastions of the horror genre, such as Germany and Japan.

The campaign will run all summer long across NCM’s entire network of around 18,000 screens US-wide as part of its FirstLook pre-show package of entertainment and advertising, which should put the budget for the cinema ad component at $20 million or more (Samsung is more than doubling its 2011 budget for promoting Galaxy products this year).
