A Lion Took my 3D Camera into the Bush

Safari Adventure is a ten episodes series of 3D observational documentary series filmed in Woburn Safari park (UK) and co-produced by Renegade Pictures and CAN Communicate. Safari Adventure, directed by Natalie Wilkinson and Livia Simok, is one of Discovery Europe’s first 3D commissions. In the final stages of post production now, it is intended for 3net in the US in December 2011 as well as transmission on February 4 as a simulcast on Sky 3D and in 2D. Rhinos, lions and giraffes are among the wildlife featured along with their keepers and safari managers. 

 Duncan Humphreys, CAN Communicate Creative Director, reported that a lion had a good chew of one of the team's GoPro 3D Hero cameras, giving a great indication of what it’s like to be eaten by a lion !

Quincunx Tech Note by Sensio

SENSIO (Montreal, Canada) is pleased to announce that the technical notes for the application of the DVB-3DTV specification to the SENSIO® Hi-Fi 3D format are now available for download from our website. Titled "CONFIGURATION FOR QUINCUNX SIGNALLING IN DVB-3DTV & HDMI 1.4A", the DVB-3DTV specification details the delivery system for frame compatible plano-stereoscopic 3DTV services, enabling service providers to utilize their existing HDTV infrastructures to deliver 3DTV services that are compatible with 3DTVs already in the market.

This system covers both use cases of a set-top box delivering 3DTV services to a 3DTV via an HDMI connection, and a 3DTV receiving 3D services directly via a built-in tuner and decoder, and the application notes will enable the broadcast chain to deliver SENSIO® Hi-Fi 3D optimally.

Unbeleafable 3D

Levi's Film Workshop and GIRL Skateboards partnered to create something amazing in conjunction with Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. The result: "Unbeleafable," a short 3D skateboard video extravaganza (11 minutes) available in HD 3D on YouTube since July 2011. The short shot in the Santa Clarita Studios and was directed by Ty Evans and produced by Girl Skateboards in partnership with the Levi’s Film Workshop.

Edius 3D Beta Free Testing in December

Grass Valley has added 3D tools to its EDIUS nonlinear editing software, providing users with a complete stereoscopic 3D postproduction workflow. The STORM 3G and STORM 3G Elite editing platforms —are both supported via the EDIUS timeline with stereoscopic 3D I/O through a single 3G SDI source and/or dual 3G SDI signals.

A 30-day preview version of EDIUS, that supports this 3D functionality will be available online in December as a free download for testing purposes.
