The Lion King 3D attracts crowds

Disney's The Lion King has been re-released this week-end (in 3D of course). 3D presentations accounted for 92% of the 30.1M$ week-end gross and help push the movie up from 25th to 17th on the all-time B.O. charts.

We tested the YouTube 2D-to-3D Conversion

YouTube is announcing a new 2D to 3D conversion service in BETA version. This is supposed to enable "3Dfication" of any 2D video  at a "click of a button." This is NOT possible on any video, but only on those you uploaded yourself.

You get the 3D button by opening the "Edit Info" page for a video you've uploaded: sign in to your YouTube account, start playing one of your videos, and click on the "Edit Info" button: the "3D Video" button is here to click.

We did the test using the left side of a 3D video so you can compare "True 3D" vs "YouTube fake 3D"...

Red Bull Rampage: The Evolution

Hi-Ground Media created an exciting free-ride mountain biking 3D stereoscopic show for Red Bull Media House North America, titled "Red Bull Rampage: The Evolution". The half-hour extreme mountain biking show premiered in August on 3Net (Channel 107 on DirectTV), and is set to cycle through another series of airings beginning Oct. 6.

Binocle Shot The French Coast in 3D

The Arte European TV channel will broadcast in 2012 a 90-minutes documentary entitled "Le relief d’une côte ”, an aerial view of the 3,000 km of France coastline. Binocle (Paris, France) put four cameras on an Ecureuil helicopter for the shot.

3D Paintings

Painting is an art. Painting two images and make them enjoyable as a 3D stereoscopic pair is another story.... Salvador Dali did it with "Le Christ de Gala", but Theo Prins, who lives in Washington state, USA, does it for a living.

OHKI 42" 3DTV : passive and cheap

Manufacturing a cheap passive glasses 3DTV is possible: OHKI just released a 42" inch one for $699. Gone is time when passive 3D sets were two times the price....
