Star Wars 7 will be released in 3D by Disney in 2015. Episodes 8 and 9 will Follow

Walt Disney Co has agreed to buy filmmaker George Lucas's Lucasfilm Ltd and the "Star Wars" franchise for $4.05 billion in cash and stock, a deal that includes the promise of Episode 7 in 2015. Bob Iger, Disney CEO said the plan is to release a new movie in the series every two to three years thereafter. And, as the Disney policy seems clearly to produce everything in 3D, Star Ward 7 and its sequels will be in 3D stereoscopic format.

Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Additionally she will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney’s global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.
