“Immortals” is the second No. 1 opening this year for Relativity, created by movie financier Ryan Kavanaugh. The company expanded into film distribution after co-financing and co-producing with major studios including Universal Pictures, a unit of Comcast Corp. and Sony Pictures. The did also “Limitless” this year, which opened in March and generated $161 million in worldwide ticket sales.

About “66 percent of the opening-weekend audience saw the film in 3-D,” said Phil Contrino, editor in New York at Boxoffice.com. “That’s always good because they are paying higher ticket prices. It really hit its core base of males pretty well.”
