Focus mismatch is a big issue for 3D

We all want the best quality out of our stereoscopic 3D movies. complete match of both cameras parameters is a required condition, so we align, we adjust zoom values... and we forget to fine tune the focus distance! Focus mismatch is not easy to correct (post-processing correction will degrade quality) and is even not so easy to detect.

To raise awareness about this issue, Serji Pujades(in the picture below) and his colleagues from INRIA,Grenoble, France presented a 16 minutes talk at the Stereoscopic Displays and Application conference in January 2012. They presented a new method to detect focus mismatch running in real-time. The presentation is available in full here under.
