Better quality needed from 3D projectionists

on Sunday, 17 July 2011 18:32. Posted in Exhibition, glasses, servers, and projectors

Terrence Malick has set detailed projection instructions for "The Tree of Life", asking  that the 'foot-Lambert level is at Standard 14.' "Having to ask projectionists to hit 14 Foot-Lamberts of brightness is like having to ask American motorists to drive to the right side of the road.... And the same is true for all aspects of 3D projection.

Memo to the movie industry: "The first step toward recovery, as AA has taught the world, is admitting you have a problem."

Good 3D sound required

on Thursday, 26 May 2011 16:35. Posted in Exhibition, glasses, servers, and projectors

Good 3D cinema requires a (very) large screen and a (very) powerful sound system. The message was heard by the team behind the refurbishing of the WARD cinemas in Hawaii oneyear ago in June 2010, just in time for the ToyStory3 opening. They called it "Titan Extreme Cinema", then  installed a wall-to-wall 66 feet (20 meters) screen by Harkness-Hall in front of a brand new digital projector and a rack full of XpanD glasses. But the highlight of the system comes from the sound setup offering 75,000 watts, five times the power available at a typical auditorium. To check how good it is, you need to take a break in Hawaii...
