3D Film Mart Call for Projects http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/history/market-a-trends/2435-3d-film-mart-call-for-projects.html http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/history/market-a-trends/2435-3d-film-mart-call-for-projects.html If you are a producer of stereoscopic 3D movies or a producer of 2D movies considering making your next movie in stereoscopic 3D, we invite you to submit your 3D movie projects to the 2012 3D Film Mart (3DFM), which is the first co-production market for stereoscopic 3D movies in Europe and beyond.

3DFM is sponsored by the MEDIA Programme of the European Commission. 3DFM will take place in Liège, Belgium, on December 4-5, 2012 during our overall 3D Stereo MEDIA event. In 2011, they received 60 projects, for a total budget of about 250,000,000 €. 3DFM is intended to be both a market for stereoscopic 3D movie projects and a forum for discussion and education about producing and distributing S-3D content.

Focus mismatch is a big issue for 3D http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/3d-cinema/post-production/2433-focus-mismatch-is-a-big-issue-for-3d.html http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/3d-cinema/post-production/2433-focus-mismatch-is-a-big-issue-for-3d.html We all want the best quality out of our stereoscopic 3D movies. complete match of both cameras parameters is a required condition, so we align, we adjust zoom values... and we forget to fine tune the focus distance! Focus mismatch is not easy to correct (post-processing correction will degrade quality) and is even not so easy to detect.

To raise awareness about this issue, Serji Pujades(in the picture below) and his colleagues from INRIA,Grenoble, France presented a 16 minutes talk at the Stereoscopic Displays and Application conference in January 2012. They presented a new method to detect focus mismatch running in real-time. The presentation is available in full here under.

Zecotek European Patent Received http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/stereoscopic-displays/autostereoscopic-displays/2430-zecotek-european-patent-received.html http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/stereoscopic-displays/autostereoscopic-displays/2430-zecotek-european-patent-received.html Zecotek Photonics Inc. today announced that the European Patent Office has issued a Notice of Allowance, and the Eurasian Patent Office has issued a Notification on Readiness to Grant a Eurasian Patent, for the 3D/2D switchable optical imaging system for its glasses-free 3D auto-stereoscopic display system.

The Zecotek autostereoscopic displays propose a large number of views to the viewers on a wider angle than others (typically 50°). The number of views generated by the system goes from 2 to 90 and is software-adjustable. Part of the Zecotek 'secret' lies in time-multiplexing: using the same pixel for different views at different times, a principle not uncommon to stereoscopic active glasses, but  here without any.

A 32-inch prototype of the Zecotek autostereoscopic display is currently being demonstrated at their Vancouver and Singapore offices. It is visible on request.

‘Transformers: The Ride - 3D’: 5 Minutes, 100 M$ http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/3d-movies/3d-shorts/2427-transformers-the-ride-3d-5-minutes-100-m.html http://stereoscopynews.com/hotnews/3d-movies/3d-shorts/2427-transformers-the-ride-3d-5-minutes-100-m.html Mechatronics or stereoscopic 3D CGI? That’s the question the special-effects gurus at Universal Studios and Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) , as well as “Transformers” director Michael Bay, first asked themselves five years ago when they started developing the $100 million theme park attraction based on the Transformers franchise.

Shot in 4K and presented on 14 digital screens mixed with partially real-world sets, the attraction is enjoyed from a 12-person vehicle designed to look as a transformer named Evac. who goes on a breakneck chase from the headquarters of the top-secret NEST agency through city streets, across rooftops and even inside an office building on the hunt for a missing shard of the AllSpark, the powerful Transformers artifact.
